Can I burn my tracks to CD or download them for use beyond the REI Custom Program time-period?

Yes. In fact we recommend it. Though you may choose to stream your REI Audio tracks each day, we suggest that when a new track is made that you download it and put it on a media player. This way you have a back-up and long-term access to your REI Audio files. Keep in mind that when your new REI Audio track is created your old one no longer exists on our server, so if you want to have access to it you need to download it before submitting your weekly feedback form.

If you choose to burn a CD from your downloaded track, make sure that your CD player can either play an Mp3 file or that you set your CD burning software to burn your CD as an audio CD and not an Mp3 or data CD. If you have any questions on how to download or burn your REI Audio tracks, please contact us.

Can I use headphones if I need to?

Yes, Even though the REI Custom Program doesn't require headphones to be effective, you are certainly welcome to use them if you choose. If you do use headphones we suggest not using noise-cancellation or isolation headphones. Remember, REI is the only 'No Listening Required' auditory program.

Ear buds or open-back headphones that allow some ambient room noise to be heard is you best option. As well, when using headphones be very aware of your listening volume as it's much easier to play the REI Audio too loud. If you see any of the side effects listed in this document, it's an indication that the volume is too high.

Is it safe for others in the room to hear my REI Audio track?

Generally, yes. For most people hearing someone else's REI Audio has a calming effect. However, there are some instances when we don't recommend others hearing your REI Audio tracks. One case is when a secondary listener has more profound issues that the person the REI program was made for, such as in the case of a teenager with attention issues, whose program is heard by a young child with autism.

Another case is when the listener doesn't hear as well as other people who may be in the room while the REI Audio plays through speakers. In this case the volume may need to be too high for others when set properly for the intended listener to hear.

What time of day should I play the recording?

There is no required time of day to listen to the REI Program Audio. We do find that most clients develop a daily routine to play their session. For children, parents often play the session after school or before bedtime. Adults often play their sessions in the morning before work or in the evening.

My child will not sit still for 30 minutes; how could the program work for him?

REI is the only 'No Listening Required' auditory program. REI does not require active listening. It is best if your child has the freedom to self-regulate and move freely around the room while the track plays. There is no need to have him sit and listen to the music; in fact REI is designed for the listener's brain seeks out this novel stimulus while involved in another activity - playing, listening to a story, working, reading, etc.

What kind of side effects might I see?

Side effects to the REI Custom Program are very rare, occuring in less than 5% of the cases, and always temporary. Never have we seen long term negative responses to the REI Audio recordings. In every case, taking a break for a few days (usually 3 or 4) eliminates any negative response caused by listening to the REI Audio.

That said, the most common adverse reaction to an REI Audio Track is seen when a session is played too loud. Symptoms from this over-stimulation is agitation, anxiety, and sleeplessness. And all are alleviated by turning the volume down to it's proper setting.

Proper low volume is one of the of the key concepts to the success of the REI Custom Program. To properly set the volume, begin playing your session, then bring the volume all the way down to zero. Slowly bring the volume back up until the rhythms are just barely audible. You do not need to hear each and every note played; the rhythms should drop out of your awareness within a few minutes.

For any adverse response seen by a client, our experience has shown us that high volume is the culprit nearly every time.

What if I miss a day (or even a week) of listening?

Optimally, your Custom Program is played every day. But to err is human, as is missing a day here or there - or encountering illness or travel where a you meet a week's absence. The online format will keep you to the current session until you complete all 7 days of playing. Therefore, a new track adjustment will not be initiated until you listen to all 7 sessions. If you have downloaded the track and are playing it independently of the online format, we recommend you simply pick up where you left off if you've only missed one day. If your absence grows toward a week or more, we recommend that when you begin again you play a full 7 days of the existing track before you initiate a new track adjustment.

If you find yourself having trouble keeing to the REI Custom Program schedule, give us a call and we'll help you find a schedule that works for you and the program.

Why is using a low volume so important?

As the only 'No Listening Required' auditory program, we are providing a very specific stimulus for the client's central nervous system. Presenting a very low volume of this stimulus encourages the client's brain to seek out this novel stimulus. If the volume is high (and this is a relative term - high means a volume that is competing with a normal speaking voice) the REI Audio can become overstimulating. Most individuals respond to over-stimulus with the presentation of anxiety, agitation or sleeplessness.

What happens when I reach the end of the Program?

First, congratulations. Second, you can stop listening and your gains will stay, or you can continue on and likely achieve more improvements. Most people continue to play the last track created for them until they see their gains level off. This can take several weeks or several months. As an REI Custom Program client you have streaming access to your last track for 90 days after your program ends. You, of course, can also download any or all of your tracks and have access to them forever.

Once you hit a plateau in your progress you can add more custom REI Audio tracks and even shift the symptom focus of your program, This means that what you ultimately achieve can be much more than what your initial program accomplished.

Can I have more than one person on a program at a time?

Yes, your account allows you to manage and view each individual client under the umbrella of your account.

Can more than one person use the same program?

Although symptoms often reveal themselves in family groups, even matching in severity and presentation, our research shows that each individual client's response to REI can vary even with the best matched initial presentation of symptoms. Therefore, it is impossible to make a single track adjustment that will meet the needs of both individuals . It is best if each client has their own program that can then dynamically respond to the exact feedback of that client and not shortchange either individual's progress.

If you want to have more than one family member on an REI Custom Program, contact us for a family discount code.

How soon will I see results?

Improvement of symptoms varies individual by individual, but our research shows that the majority of clients begin experiencing major changes by week 6 of the Program, thoug many see results within the first week. This is usually the case if anxiety or sleep are part of the client's Program focus.

We have ambient room noise such as a fan or air filter; will the track still work if it plays in this room?

Yes, simply set the volume so that it is audible just above the ambient room noise. If your room noise is excessive, such as with a loud air conditioner, you may need to play your REI Custom Program Track in a different room or turn off the noisy appliance while your track plays.

If the noise is an intermitten one, such as airplanes or traffic, set the volume at the proper level for the quite periods and let the noise drown out the REI Audio. This intermittent noise should not interfere with your progress on the program unless it's noisy more often than it's quiet. In this case, you may want to use headphones. But please contact us first as we may be able to offer an alternative solution.

How can a computer-based program surpass the original REI Custom Program?

Our New REI Custom Program has advantages we never dreamed of just seven years ago when the REI Custom Program was already the most progressive auditory program ever created. The proprietary REI Custom Program software has a flexibility and muscle that constantly strengthens the REI material it can deliver. As well, it learns from our client's feedback and is consistently adjusting to keep progress with the responses each client has.

Our original REI Custom Program CDs were hand-made by Jeff Strong and the Strong Institute staff and as such, were dependent on the inconsistencies and variations from the many people involved. Our new REI Custom Program improves upon the original in very specific ways: The Program now provides each client a track adjustment every week in response to that client's progress, something we couldn't offer in the past. As well, the consistency that comes with our advanced software means no more human misinterpretation of the intake data. Rest assured, though, that a real live human is still checking every REI Audio track before it's released to a client. And we also offer manually created tracks when necessary.
