A recent New York Times article, one of many over the last couple of years, highlights the trend among students to take ADD medications, such as Adderall, to give them an edge in studying and taking tests.
As this article describes, otherwise typical students are feeling intense pressure to compete for grades and for placements in colleges. I won't go into details, since the NTY article covers it better than I could, but the most disturbing part of this trend is that many students don't realize how dangerous these drugs are.
