New Study: Calming Anxiety-Based Behaviors in Autism with Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention (REI) Drumming Rhythms

Last year we conducted another study in a public school with children on the autism spectrum. This study explored the ability of Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention (REI) drumming rhythms to reduce anxiety and anxiety-based behaviors, such as aggresson, self-stimulatory behaviors, and emotional outbursts, including tantrums and oppositional behavior.

Like with all our studies, this one used a custom-made recording created for each child. And, like our earliest research, each recording was made based on our detailed intake and on responses to a live performance by REI creator Jeff Strong. This takes us back to our roots with live drumming followed by custom recordings. And the results mirrored our first study showing significant and consistent reduction in anxiety from both the live drumming and the subsequent recordings.
